About Tola to Gram
Tola to Gram is an independent, free website with one focus: converting the traditional tola into grams and other units accurately, and making the result easy to see. It is run by the site owner, who built it after finding that most tola calculators either rounded too early or gave no context for traditional units like masha and ratti.
Why This Site Exists
Millions of people in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Gulf and the wider diaspora still buy, sell and inherit gold measured in tola. Shops quote some prices per tola, others per 10 grams or per troy ounce. Tola to Gram brings those units together with live visuals, so you can check a quote, a bill or a family piece in seconds.
How the Numbers Are Calculated
- The tola was standardised in British India at 180 grains troy. One grain is defined as exactly 64.79891 mg, so 1 tola = 11.6638038 g.
- Traditional sub-units follow the same standard: 1 tola = 12 masha = 96 ratti. In Bangladesh the same weight is called a vori, split into 16 ana of 6 roti each.
- Ounce conversions use the troy ounce (31.1034768 g) for precious metals and the avoirdupois ounce (28.349523125 g) where stated.
- Every calculation runs with full precision in your browser. Numbers are only rounded for display.
Independence and Prices
Tola to Gram does not sell gold and is not sponsored by any jeweller, bullion dealer or bank. The site does not publish live market prices. Value estimates use the rate you type in, so you stay in control of the numbers you compare.
